It’s great to be a Hillsboro Hawk! If you have been paying attention the past few years, you have heard about the multiple times Hillsboro teams have gone to state.
Did you know? Hillsboro state records started in 1982 when the volleyball team won state runner-up. Volleyball was followed by dance in 2015, boys wrestling in 2022 and 2024, boys track in 2022, and football in 2023. The state champions have been archery bullseye in 2018, 2021, and 2023, boys cross country in 2022, and boys wrestling in 2023. Hillsboro Hawks are even national champions thanks to the archery Eastern National Bullseye team in 2023.
A Community Hawk Sign Committee has come up with an idea to put a "Welcome to Hillsboro Home of the Hawks" sign with this list of amazing accomplishments. The sign location will be hosted by BNM—Big Nasty Motorsports. We are concentrating on one sign, keeping in mind the upkeep and updates needed. If enough funds are raised, the committee would like to have another sign put on the south side of town near the city limits.
The signs will be updated with each national championship, state championship, and state runner-up addition. The committee asked for five bids, and Piros Signs provided the best bid. The guidelines have been set as high school teams (not individuals) that have placed as national champions, state champions, and state runner-up that have met MSHSAA, NASP, or MDTA requirements.
Maybe this is “just” a sign to some. But the excitement and the significance go way beyond the metal, letters, and years. This is a reminder to your family, friends, neighbors, and visitors to our community of what is possible when programs are at their best. It is a dream for many athletes to help their team win a state title, and this sign will memorialize all of those who were able to achieve this dream and be the best in Missouri. It will also serve as a reminder to today’s students of what is possible if they apply themselves.
